D.J. Sterling built his
first crystal radio set when he was just five years old. By age
eleven D.J. was talking world wide on the cb radio. By his mid
twenties D.J. was operating a low power radio station he called
"Gorilla Youth Radio". During this time he developed
a unique style of radio show that became so popular he had to
try and produce it on a professional level. His chance came when
a local FM station gave him that opportunity.
In 1980 the D.J. Sterling
Mighty Music Machine took to the airwaves on WMWM FM 91.7 in Salem,
Mass. The show was the first ever Talk Rock show in the U.S.A.
The format was an exciting, fast paced rock and roll show with
live phone calls, concert reports, special guests and the zaniest
news reports that could be found on the AP and UPI news wires.
As the live phone calls and news reports became more and more
of a controversial nature, the show was suspended from the air
waves indefinately. The show (which by today's standards would
not be as controversial in light of such shows as Imas in the
Morning, the Guy Kemp Show and the infamous Howard Stern Show)
was the prototype of these types of shows that you hear on the
radio today. Now with the help of the Internet and modern technology
you can hear the show that was "TOO COOL FOR FM RADIO".
